DESCRIPTION

The Parkland School District offers small group instruction on most band and strings instruments in both 4th and 5th grade. Lessons are provided by the district (no cost to parents) and are 30 minutes per week.

4th graders perform a Spring Concert - their “debut” performance - at the conclusion of 4th Grade.

5th graders perform two concerts: a Winter Concert (December) and a Spring Concert (May). The spring concert combines all 5th grade band and strings students throughout the district in one large, “district-wide” concert event which takes place on the stage of Parkland High School's beautiful auditorium. It truly is a thrill and a wonderful way to cap off the elementary band/strings experience!

Additional playing opportunities, such as participation in school assemblies, pep rallies, Summer Band & Strings Camp, and the PMEA (Pennsylvania Music Educators Association) Elementary Honor Band & Orchestra Festival, are provided as well.

EQUITY

The Parkland School District wants all students who desire to be able to participate. Even if there is a financial need the district has a limited number of school-owned instruments it can make available to students to use. Our district's preferred instrument vendors, Zeswitz Music and The String Tree, also offers limited numbers of needs-based scholarships for band and string instrument rental.

We do not want finances to be a reason a student does not participate.
